Protein digestion: Metagest enhances gastric stimulus for the whole digestive sequence by providing adequate amounts of the main constituents of gastric acid, pepsin and hydrochloric acid to assist protein digestion.1 If gastrin secretion is reduced (producing a more alkaline pH) some subsequent digestive processes may also be affected including pyloric sphincter opening. Digestive function may deteriorate with age, particularly gastric acid and pancreatic output.2
